The Cicadas
2020-21 Edition
The Centre International de Rencontres Mathématiques, the Institut de Mathématiques de Marseille (I2M – AMU) and the association « Maths pour tous », in collaboration with Alstom, organized the second edition of the mathematics school « The Cicadas » during the autumn vacations.
From October 19 to 23, 2020, 26 high school girls (there were 17 in 2019), selected on the basis of letters of motivation and on the recommendation of their teachers, had the opportunity to deepen their knowledge of mathematics with researchers who attend CIRM.

This second edition of the Cicadas was supported by Aix-Marseille University, CNRS-INSMI, CIRM, the Mathematics Institute of Marseille – I2M, the Computer Science and Systems Laboratory – LIS, the Blaise Pascal Foundation with the patronage of Alstom, Frumam – Research Federation of Mathematics Units of Marseille, the ILCB – Institute of language, communication and the brain, the South Region, the City of Marseille, the Faculty of Sports Sciences of Luminy (AMU) and the Maths C2+ program (SMF, Ministry of Education, Animath).
The aim of the « The Cicadas » mathematics school is to develop the attractiveness of mathematics to young girls in order to achieve greater parity in technical and scientific careers. During 5 days, the high school girls were able to discover that mathematics is all around us and above all that it is accessible to most people, both girls and boys.
