CEMRACS - INFORMATION FOR POTENTIAL ORGANIZERS

CIRM has welcomed CEMRACS each summer since 1996.
 The right environment

All-in-one conference centre

Participants can live in total immersion with their fellow scientists, researching, talking, sleeping and eating in this one place. No need to look for hotels and restaurants, everything is taken care of.

The seminar rooms, the vast library and even the tables in the park enable participants to gather in large or small groups and collaborate.

And, if you fancy adding a special event such as a special anniversary celebration, our experienced staff are ready to provide customised support in accordance with your needs.

With 3500 visitors per year, CIRM is the most visited mathematics conference centre in the world. We aim to make every event a success.

Just take a look at our short film about CIRM and you will find out more about our centre and its beautiful natural surroundings.

Very good facilities

CIRM has various well-equiped seminar rooms and all the necessary facilities including blackboards of course, video projectors, 24/7 library access and scanning and printing equipment.

The rooms available in 2017 are:
NB: this will change by late 2018 with additional infrastructure on offer.

1 lecture hall
  • seats about 100 people
  • moveable blackboards
  • state-of-the-art cameras
  • video projector, microphones
  • free tea/coffee at breaktimes just outside
2 seminar rooms
  • The Chapelle room : for up to 19 people
  • The Billard room : for up to 19 people

Several smaller rooms for research in pairs or groups of small sizes are also available in the library.

Our own restaurant

Our restaurant is praised by many visitors. Specialties include not only French but also Mediterranean and Provençal dishes, including bouillabaisse for something truly local. Thursday evening is usually reserved for this special meal but other arrangements are possible. The restaurant also caters for vegetarians.

Modern accommodation

Accommodation has been renovated over the last three years. All single and twin bedrooms, as well as all four studios - dedicated primarily to research in pairs or to families - have benefited from a new, fresh and contemporary look.
Additional new bedrooms will be available from late 2018.

Funding your event
CEMRACS is not subsidized by CIRM and must be funded through external funding. The SMAI will give you more details on this.

To get a clear idea of the necessary budget you need for your event, we recommend that you contact the Events Budget Officer, Muriel Milton.

You will also find a link to the current board and lodging rates below.

A professional organization

Communication on your event in France and abroad!

CIRM is keen to ensure that information on all events is professional and easy to access. The Events Coordinator sets up dedicated mini websites for each event (in French and in English). These show all relevant details: a short description, scientific and organizing committees, list of speakers and participants, schedule, abstracts, posters, videos etc.  All large international events are included in the ERCOM and AMS calendars well in advance to generate worldwide interest. Events are also advertized regularly through our Newsletter. Please note that the mini websites for your event are based on the information provided in your original application. Updates are of course possible but we ask you to keep this in mind when you apply, especially regarding the description of the event.

Videos
Picture
Since late 2014, CIRM has led the way with its Audiovisual Mathematics Library, a sophisticated platform built on an archive of talks given by worldwide mathematicians during their stay at CIRM.
Our aim is to produce several videos each week to record special moments of the events that take place. Our dedicated audiovisual team puts in place several types of films, among which one enriched scientific document per week, containing keywords and tags that enable viewers to select the very moments they wish to watch. In order to produce this high quality material,  organizers and the selected speakers are contacted early on and work in collaboration with the Audiovisual team. The result is a high quality scientific record of the event you have organized.

You will be contacted by the team to arrange filming of several talks during your CEMRACS event.
Propose a CEMRACS
Proposals for CEMRACS must be made online 18-24 months in advance in English on our website.
They must have been discussed and pre-selected by SMAI first.

Look out for the CIRM calls for proposals, published each year with deadlines at the end of March and September in general.

The selection is made by CIRM's international Scientific Committee during their twice-yearly meetings. An oral presentation by the organizers (in person or via video-conferencing) is also compulsory during one of the meetings. Note that this presentation usually takes place in English.
