GETTING TO CIRM BY PLANE
Arriving at Marseille-Provence Airport (LFML)
Option 1: take a taxi
If money is no object, then a direct taxi to CIRM is the easiest and most comfortable way. It takes about 55 mns on average. You need to budget around 80€ one way.
You can contact the Accommodation officer a few days in advance with your flight times and pre-order a taxi. A taxi driver will meet you at the terminal with a sign that carries your name.
NB: CIRM does not pay for any taxi fare
Option 2: take the Marseille airport shuttle bus and public transport
If you have time and want to reach CIRM by public transport this can be done quite easily for under 10€ one way. It takes about 1.5 hour.
1st leg of the journey: AIRPORT to RAILWAY-COACH STATION
On arriving at the airport, get on the Shuttle bus or "Navette" just outside the terminal all the way to its last stop called "Gare Saint-Charles" which is the main railway and coach station. For details of fares and timetable please ckeck the Airport shuttle website .
2nd leg of the journey: RAILWAY-COACH STATION to CIRM
TAXI: From the railway station to CIRM you can choose to take a taxi to the Luminy campus (distance 11km, costing from 35 to 45€ according to the time of day). Note that CIRM does not pay for any taxi fares.
You can contact the Accommodation Officer if you would like to arrange for a taxi in advance.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT: You can use the "Metro" (underground) for about 15 minutes then get on bus 21 or 921 "JET bus" (fast but only running during term time). The cost of a single ticket covering both means of transport is about 1,50€ from a machine in the underground or 1,80 € if bought on the bus (or about 13€ for a 10-journey pass). If you intend to buy individual tickets, you will need some change.
What to do once you have bought your ticket:
Get on "Metro" line 2 (red) in the direction "Ste Marguerite-Dromel". Get off at "Rond-Point du Prado" (last but one stop on the line) and come out of the underground station through the left entrance. Cross the large avenue and take Bus Number 921 JET BUS (fast but only running during term time) or Bus 21 (normal) all the way to the terminus called "Luminy". Travel lasts about 25-40 minutes. CIRM is then located 8 minutes on foot from the bus stop, once you’ve entered through the main gate of the campus. There are signs to direct you.
If you arrive after 21:45, the easiest is to catch Night bus number 521 directly from "Gare St Charles" (Railway station) all the way to the last stop "Luminy" then walk to CIRM as detailed above. If the main gate of the university entrance is shut, tell the person on duty that you are coming to CIRM and they will open the gate.
An alternative solution by daytime is to continue on Metro 2 till the last stop called "Ste Marguerite Dromel" and catch Bus number 24 to Luminy.
